Accelerating Net Zero in Ecuador: GNFZ Partners with Ecuador Green Building Council
The Global Network for Zero (GNFZ) and the Consejo Ecuatoriano de Edificación Sustentable (CEES), or Ecuador Green Building Council, have formed a strategic partnership to promote the net zero transformation of buildings and portfolios in Ecuador through industry-leading best standards, implementation, certifications, and reporting. This marks a continuation of GNFZ’s commitment to decarbonizing Latin America, coming on the heels of its partnership with the Peru Green Building Council and the Chile Green Building Council.
As a member of the World Green Building Council, CEES plays a leading role in advancing environmentally responsible and energy-efficient building practices. Its mission is to transform the built environment into one that is healthy, resilient and aligned with sustainable development goals.
CEES has spearheaded several emblematic initiatives, including the Smart and Sustainable Cities Forum and the Postgraduate Program in Sustainable Urban Construction and Development, through which more than 200 Ecuadorian professionals have been trained and certified. Among its landmark achievements is the design and construction management of Ecuador’s first sustainable public building—the Quito Convention Center.
“CEES actively works to shape policies, build capacity, and promote innovations that support a greener, more sustainable Ecuador,” said Mahesh Ramanujam, President and CEO of GNFZ. “It is our hope that with this partnership and CEES’ ongoing collaboration with the public and private sectors, we will realize true market transformation in decarbonizing Ecuador’s buildings and businesses.”
Between 2021 and 2023, CEES has focused on strengthening its position as a technical reference for decision-making in sustainable construction and urban development. Through ongoing collaboration with the public and private sectors, CEES continues to shape policies, build capacity, and promote innovations that support a greener, more sustainable Ecuador.
“CEES is dedicated to promoting sustainability strategies and technologies within Ecuador’s construction and urban development sectors,” said Fernando Correa Sevilla, Board Chairman of CEES. “GNFZ’s net zero certifications are aligned with Ecuador’s needs, and will help accelerate a net zero future.”
As part of this strategic partnership, GNFZ and CEES will promote and accelerate the net zero transformation of buildings and portfolios in Ecuador through industry-leading best practices and standards, implementation, certifications and reporting. We will explore how GNFZ can support some of the local decarbonization efforts that CEES has underway and how the GNFZ platform can advance these efforts while collaborating on decarbonization pilot projects in the region
