Energy & Decarbonization Project Manager at Baumann Consulting, Hardik Miyani
GNFZ: What role do you play in your company and what does your company do?
Hardik Miyani: In my role as an Energy & Decarbonization Project Manager at Baumann Consulting, I work closely with building owners and operators to turn sustainability goals into practical, measurable outcomes. My work focuses on existing buildings—where the biggest opportunity lies—through energy audits, retro-commissioning, electrification strategies, and portfolio-level decarbonization planning. As a company, Baumann Consulting helps organizations optimize building performance, reduce energy and carbon impacts, and improve occupant comfort through engineering-driven, real-world solutions. What motivates me most is seeing complex challenges translated into actions that actually work on the ground.
Why is achieving net zero in the building sector important to you?
Personally, I see buildings as one of the most powerful levers we have to address climate change while improving how people live and work every day. Buildings touch everyone’s life and decarbonizing them creates benefits that go far beyond emissions—lower operating costs, healthier spaces, and more resilient communities. For my company, net zero aligns directly with our mission to deliver long-term value, not just short-term efficiency gains. We believe climate action and business performance are not competing goals but mutually reinforcing ones.
What is your definition of leadership for the green building sector?
Leadership in this sector means having the courage to move from ambition to execution, even when the path is not perfectly defined. It’s about guiding clients and teams through uncertainty with clarity, technical credibility, and empathy for real-world constraints. True leaders share knowledge, elevate others, and create systems that outlast individual projects. For me, leadership also means listening—because the best solutions often come from collaboration rather than authority.
What advice do you have for organizations that may be intimidated by the cost of sustainability or by all the options that are out there?
My advice is to start with clarity, not perfection. Sustainability does not have to mean massive upfront capital; many impactful decarbonization actions begin with low- or no-cost operational improvements and smart planning. Focus on understanding your building or portfolio first, then prioritize actions that align with your financial and organizational realities. Once organizations see early wins, momentum builds naturally and confidence replaces hesitation.
How do you think GNFZ, and you or your company can collaborate to bring value to a larger ecosystem of businesses to achieve net zero?
GNFZ has the ability to bring structure, consistency, and credibility to the net zero journey, which is exactly what many organizations are looking for. By combining GNFZ’s global framework with our hands-on technical expertise in existing buildings, we can help organizations move from high-level commitments to implementable roadmaps. Together, we can bridge the gap between strategy and execution, making net zero more accessible and less intimidating. This collaboration can create a ripple effect across portfolios, industries, and regions.
How are you currently working with GNFZ to support your clients in reaching net zero?
As an advisor with GNFZ, I help align client decarbonization strategies with recognized net zero principles and performance-based pathways. This involves translating building-level data, operational insights, and retrofit opportunities into credible, long-term decarbonization plans. I also help clients understand how their actions today fit into a broader net zero narrative, rather than isolated projects. The goal is to give clients confidence that their efforts are meaningful, measurable, and future-ready.
What do you value most about GNFZ’s net zero certification and platform, and how does it benefit your clients?
What I value most is that GNFZ’s certification emphasizes credibility, transparency, and real performance over marketing-driven claims. The platform provides clients with a clear roadmap and a common language to communicate progress internally and externally. This builds trust with stakeholders while helping organizations stay accountable to their goals. For clients, it turns net zero from an abstract ambition into a structured, achievable journey.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
The future of sustainability depends on people who are willing to act, not just advocate. When purpose meets action, individual efforts can scale into global change—and this belief is what should continue to drive us every day.
