Mike Dieterich is a seasoned leader at the forefront of the global sustainability and decarbonization movement, with more than two decades of experience operating at the intersection of integrated design, public policy, technology, and organizational strategy. An environmental scientist by training, his career spans the corporate, public sector, nonprofit, and higher education arenas, equipping him with a unique ability to drive decarbonization at scale and translate ambition into measurable net-zero outcomes.

Mike is the Founder of Decarb Advisory, where he advises corporations, governments, and nonprofit organizations on embedding sustainability and net-zero strategies into core operations. His work focuses on aligning business objectives with climate performance to deliver both environmental impact and economic value. He brings deep expertise in renewable energy, GHG Protocol implementation, carbon road mapping and benchmarking, climate risk and resilience, biodiversity and regenerative practices, as well as policy development and advocacy.

Prior to founding Decarb Advisory, Mike held leadership roles across a diverse set of organizations, including Montgomery County Government (Maryland), CRB, AstraZeneca, McKissack & McKissack, Renew and Sustain, and Parsons Corporation.

Over the course of his career, Mike has led high-impact, large-scale initiatives that demonstrate the power of integrated decarbonization strategies. At Amazon, he led zero-carbon compliance across North American operations, advancing risk reduction strategies and integrating EC3, low-carbon materials, electrification, and refrigerant upgrades across more than 200 projects. At AstraZeneca, he developed the company’s Zero Carbon strategy and led North American implementation, including structuring the first business-to-business, and second-largest overall, renewable natural gas (RNG) contract in the United States. He also developed the sustainability framework for the DC Public Schools Modernization Program (DCPEP), achieving a 28% reduction in energy use and approximately $3 million in annual savings, while overseeing the certification of 53 LEED projects totaling more than 3.5 million square feet.

Mike will be advising GNFZ on technical innovations and efficiencies on our net-zero certification platform for new construction and existing building and businesses.
