GNFZ Advisor Jason Kliwinski, AIA, LEED Fellow, is a highly accomplished architect and sustainability executive with 30 years of notable achievements in the built environment at the intersection of architecture, sustainability consulting and education.

As a practicing Architect, Jason’s work includes the restoration, preservation, and adaptive reuse and renovation of existing buildings as well as creation of many new environmentally responsible and healthy projects. Jason currently serves as Principal of Designs for Life, and architectural firm primarily serving projects in the New Jersey, New York and Connecticut. His firm approaches projects practically and holistically, focusing on incorporating sustainability to the fullest extent possible on-time and within budget. Their scope of work includes corporate, commercial, educational, hospitality, municipal, residential & retail sector clients.

As a consultant, Jason has assisted clients across multiple markets in achieving LEED™ and WELL™ Building certifications on dozens of projects as well as net zero carbon, energy, waste and water master planning and consulting impacting over 10 million square feet and tens of thousands of occupants.

The collaborative that he co-founded to provide these services, the Green Building Center, provides a convenient one-stop suite of sustainability services to owners, design professional, & developer teams. Services include carbon/energy/water/waste assessments, modeling and reduction planning, indoor air quality assessment, construction waste recycling management, life cycle assessment, daylight & ventilation modeling, integrated design process management, owner representation and overall project management in addition to third party certification oversight for rating systems like LEED, WELL, and Living Building Challenge.

Jason is a passionate educator and believes in helping to prepare future generations of sustainability professionals for the critical work ahead of them. He is a member of the LEED & WELL Faculty, a Climate Reality Leader, Energy Code instructor, GPro Instructor, prior adjunct professor at NJIT, Rowan and Montclair State Universities and regularly guest lecturers at them today. He has developed & teaches many sustainability courses at the University and professional development levels on a range of green topics in addition to speaking nationally and internationally at various conferences such as Greenbuild, AIA, and the World Energy and Engineering Conference. In 2012, Jason was recognized by his peers as a LEED Fellow by Green Business Certification Inc.

In his role as a GNFZ Advisor, Jason will be advising on the evolution of the certification platform to continuously meet market needs and how the platform can assist universities and institutions to meet their decarbonization goals.
