New Resource: SBTi Crosswalk

Achieving net zero shouldn’t be more complicated than it needs to be. Which is why, at GNFZ, we strive to eliminate barriers, increase transparency and streamline the process to decarbonize buildings, businesses and more through our net zero certification.

Our certification is framework and rating system agnostic, aligns with the Paris Agreement and provides a path to calculate and eliminate Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. We accomplish this by basing our certifications on the GHG Protocol — a global framework for measuring, managing and reducing emissions from private and public sector operations, value chains, products, cities and policies. Not only is it widely respected, but we’re finding this is the method that fits the widest range of project types, especially since we are expanding to offer additional certifications beyond just buildings, for businesses, products, cities, processes and more.

We are often asked if our net zero certification is competing with other green building or net zero certifications. Let us be clear: The answer is no. In fact, our certification seeks to harmonize all the standards on the market, such as SBTi, LEED, BREEAM, Energy Star, BOMA BEST, VDP and more. Our CEO Mahesh has stressed for years that “partnership is the new leadership.” We believe that no one organization will solve the climate crisis—we need the collective power of all of us working together. GNFZ’ certification was built with total flexibility in mind: Clients can choose their standard or framework to decarbonize and achieve certification.

As a resource to make more transparent the commonalities between GNFZ’s net zero certification and one of the most commonly used frameworks, SBTi, we’ve developed a crosswalk for your reference. This document outlines how GNFZ aligns with and supports SBTi.

GNFZ and SBTi work harmoniously to help organizations address decarbonization. GNFZ aids in calculating emissions and offers recognition for achieving a net zero carbon footprint through emissions reduction and offsetting, while SBTi provides the scientific framework for emissions reduction. Many clients going through GNFZ certification elect to do both GNFZ and SBTi, and we at GNFZ encourage this for companies looking to be leaders in the field.
