GNFZ Advisor Eric Corey Freed, LEED Fellow, is a widely recognized and highly accomplished architect and sustainability executive with nearly 35 years of notable advancements designing living regenerative buildings all over the United States.

In his current role as Principal, Director of Sustainability at CannonDesign, Eric leads sustainability for all the firm’s projects for over 30 million square feet of new construction a year. CannonDesign’s targets are to have every project be net zero energy and halve embodied carbon by 2030. In his current leadership role, Eric has delivered an impressive  pipeline of innovative projects in net zero energy, zero embodied carbon, and advanced approaches to restorative health and wellness.

Prior to his role at Cannon. Eric served as Chief Community Officer and Faculty at EcoDistricts where he worked with cities and communities around the country to help them develop a clear roadmap for how to incorporate sustainability, equity, resilience and climate protection into their neighborhoods. He also served as Vice President of Global Outreach at International Living Future Institute where he put in place the strategic direction of the organization’s education, outreach, communications, web, network, advocacy, PR and event programs.

Eric is an Adjunct Professor at the prestigious Boston Architectural College where he teaches in the Sustainable Design Capstone program. He also served as a Professor of Sustainability at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

Eric has been widely recognized by his peers for his expertise and thought leadership and served as Chair of the Board of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Coachella Valley Chapter from 2010-2014. He also serves on the Board of the Human Health Initiative and Design Museum Everywhere.

Eric will advise GNFZ on city-wide and community net zero planning and certification as well as its work on new and existing buildings and portfolios.
